Surprisingly creative personalities live and create in Ukraine right now. Perhaps, the work of some of them will be estimated at millions of dollars over the years. And now they are being exhibited in European countries, creating the cultural heritage of our nation, improving technology and looking for inspiration to create masterpieces of world art. Let's get to know them better.
Evgeniya Gapchinskaya
Perhaps, she is the most famous artist in Ukraine today. She illustrates children's books, but her artworks are also massively used even in decorating household items. There are several personal "Galleries of Happiness" by Gapchinskaya in the country, and other artists actively imitate her artistic style.
Her chubby, ruddy, often winged characters will be recognized by everyone who has heard of her. Contemporary critics reproach the artist for the fact that the concept in her artworks does not change. But the cost of her original paintings starts at 100,000 UAH, and this speaks volumes.
Maxim Mamsikov
In the early 1990s, Mamsikov became a representative of the “Ukrainian New Wave” movement of Ukrainian postmodernism. Moreover, that he is our contemporary, he also has the ability to photographically accurate painting.
Who would have thought that such a talented person was facing a creative crisis. The predecessor of it was the painting "Lantern", which depicts a wrecked Soviet car. The colors and the plot evoke depression. There is depressingly dark night all around, illuminated only by a meager lantern.
But today the artist is full of strength and inspiration. In his latest artworks, he “caught” moving objects that evoke a sense of nostalgia, such as “Flight” and “Flying Skier”. His picturesque, vibrant works are already on sale for $15,000.
Arsen Savadov
In addition to artistic skills, this person has mastered photography, and it is difficult to say where he has succeeded more. He was even entrusted with representing the country at the 2001 Venice Biennale.
He also showed that paintings by contemporary Ukrainian artists can be scandalous. So, he portrayed miners in ballet dresses in the “Donbass-Chocolate” series, and then the dead people in unnatural poses in the “Book of the Dead”.
Many of his other works are simply difficult to understand. The artist himself does not deny that he finds inspiration under the influence of psychedelics.
Anatoly Krivolap
Warm, soul-touching sunsets, architecture, trees, people and animals – all this looks mysterious and bewitching on the artist's artworks. Not all famous artists of Ukraine are valued so dearly: experts are sure that in less than 10 years his works will cost up to half a million dollars.
Already in 2013, his most expensive painting was “The Horse. Evening”, which left the lot for $186,200. Since then, Krivolap has been considered one of the most expensive modern painters.
Vasily Tsagolov
Few Ukrainian artists of the XXIst century have become famous for their artworks of an erotic nature. Vasily Tsagolov is among them. His heroes are fantastic characters, aliens, criminals, as well as ordinary office workers.
The most expensive his painting is "Of Whom is Hirst Afraid", which came off the lot for $100,000. Here, the famous foreign artist Damien Hirst appeared in the form of a gangster shooting to the sides, and there are cemetery crosses around him. Hirst himself often refers to the theme of death in his work. But besides this, Tsagolov decided to focus on the overwhelming influence of commercial art.
Oleg Tistol
Ukrainian artists and their paintings are of great interest abroad. Thanks to this representative of the neo-baroque movement, the West World took a fresh look at the Ukrainian currency. The hryvnia began to be considered from the art point of view (the project "Ukrainian money").
Oleg Tistol is also known for his interactive painting. At the 31st Ukrainian Fashion Week, viewers created a canvas with the characteristic name "Coloring". It was included in the cycle "Southern Coast of Crimea". A year later, the artwork was sold at auction for $53,900. By the way, Tistol's paintings have been at all auctions in the world.
Ilya Chichkan
Pictures of Ukrainian artists in the style of psycho-Darwinism began with him. He portrayed many poets, politicians and even the Pope with a monkey face. These artworks are exhibited and widely discussed all over the world.
Chichkan's painting “It” was sold at auction for $79,500. Moreover, the lot was put up not by the artist, but by a collector. Thus, we can already say that the painting is highly appreciated.
