The process of working on a new painting

In addition to the artworks that you can find in my online gallery Struchaieva Art, there are paintings on which I am currently working in the workshop. Usually I paint several paintings in parallel, which is related to the specifics of using oil paints. Before applying a new layer to the canvas, you need to wait until the previous one is completely dry, and this sometimes takes several months. In this regard, masters who paint with oils usually work on several paintings at the same time, and I am not an exception.

I want to open the curtain a bit into my workshop and show you one of my artworks in the process of creation.

I started working on this painting about a month ago. The canvas for it was selected quite large, which, in combination with the fine drawing of petals and leaves, suggests a considerable amount of work. Light flowers and rich bright leaves contrast against a dark background.

Presumably, it will take me 2-3 months to finish this painting, but it is difficult to predict for sure, because life can always make its own adjustments. For example, one day my cat became a co-author of one of the paintings, imposingly strolling through it.

This work will be the largest of the Flowers series. Before that, I used canvases of this format only in the series "Life" and "The Universe". But it's not just the size that makes this work different from other oil paintings with flowers. In the process, I used a different technique to create the background, which divides the canvas into dark and lighter zones. Also, before I did not highlight the leaves with such bright and rich colors, the main emphasis was always on the flowers themselves. Here, different shades of green played on voluminous leaves, which take up a little less than half of the canvas.

Although, creating the initial composition I already had a general image of the painting, I still do not know exactly how it will look being finished. After all, each time looking at an artwork, the artist sees all the new possibilities, which in turn leads to new ideas and solutions.
